The 31 Skulls event in 2020 was so popular that Local Color hosted another spooky giveaway this year! This year, it was a sweepstakes running during a community art party to send off the Keystone location of artist studios.
Last year I created the Treasure Skull. You could say I chose a similar theme this year, the “treasure” of the moment due to supply chain shortages: computer chips.
I’ve wanted to created some kind of art from defunct computer parts for a while. This was the perfect excuse. I pried off as many parts as I could from my friend Jeremy’s old motherboard. Capacitors were the easiest to remove. I wanted a processor and a few ports too, so I created things that looked sufficiently similar out of modeling clay.
I also discovered that this “motherboard green” is Phthalo Green, an interesting but underused (by me) paint color. The parts I salvaged were from a gray-colored board, but I really wanted to match this green color. In my mind’s eye, all computer parts are this color.
